AMERICAN CENTRIFUGAL's facilities are oriented toward automatic and semi-automatic welding of tubes, including welding to length and welding of tubes to castings, forgings or steel plate. Tubing lengths up to 80 feet can be produced.
Local preheat appropriate to the base metal composition, but commonly at 150/500° F, is used to provide controlled cooling, to minimize high hardness and the possibility of cracking.
Post weld heat treatment (PWHT) is usually locally applied in the range of 900/1300° F, to homogenize the hardness in the fusion zone and the base metal. Stress relief is also effected during this operation. Depending on size, PWHT and stress relief may be to the entire part. Procedures used include shielded metal arc, submerged arc and gas shielded arc welding. Under the latter classification, gas metal arc (MIG) with consumable continuous filler metal is used. |
