Dream City

Listed among "America's 50 Hottest Cities" by Expansion Management magazine for three consecutive years (2005-2007), the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area is full of surprises. See what Birmingham's young professionals say about living and working in the area.

A recent book listed Birmingham among the 150 most affordable cities in the United States (Life 2.0, Karlgaard, Crown Business Publishers, 2004). Three of the nation's top-ranked high schools are in the area. The Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce has these and more eye-opening facts for people relocating to the area, including a look at historic neighborhoods.

Birmingham is a place of renewal, with Red Mountain Park, a 1,100-acre multi-use recreational development now on the drawing boards that will be larger than New York City's Central Park; and with a growing loft district, which is attracting residents and new businesses to a lively and hip urban cultural center.

Residents in the seven-county metro area enjoy a wealth of outdoor recreational and sports opportunities, including: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which inspired Golf Digest to name Alabama one of the world's Top 50 Golf Destinations; and Barber Motorsports Park, home of world-class racing.

The entertainment and cultural scenes are diverse, with notable events like the annual Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, described as one of the "10 fantastic film festival vacations"; award-winning gourmet dining; and diverse options for night life. Two city papers covering these scenes are Birmingham Weekly and Black & White.

Living the AMERICAN dream is not just a possibility in Birmingham; it's an open invitation.
