Fittings and Valve Castings

All types of cast iron and ductile iron fittings and valve bodies for water, sewer, and other uses are produced in the Iron Foundry. In addition, special castings are produced for a number of applications. Pipe fittings are statically cast in diameters of 4" - 64" and 100mm - 1600mm. Various production bays equipped with molding machinery provide the means of production. A pattern shop is completely equipped for the manufacture of wooden and metal patterns.

The casting process starts with patterns made to the configuration of the desired object. Molding sand mixed with clay or chemical binders is compacted around the pattern with special ramming equipment. The pattern is drawn out, leaving a cavity with the shape of the pattern. Molded cores are inserted to form the internal shape. Two mold halves are closed together and molten iron is poured into the mold cavity. After solidification, the casting is separated from the sand, cleaned, and machined as required.

Iron for fittings is either cold-melted in three 22-metric-ton coreless induction furnaces or delivered molten to the Foundry.

This iron is chemically controlled to meet various iron strength levels required in current specifications.
