PRODUCT TRANSPORTATION
The Traffic and Shipping Departments of ACIPCO make up one of the largest transportation groups in the southeast United States. The Traffic Department is involved in every facet of sales and distribution. The primary function of this department is to secure dependable and economical means of transportation for all ACIPCO products. The Shipping Department is responsible for loading the product onto trucks or rail for shipment to the customer, operation of the weigh station, and maintaining yard inventory and product storage.
ACIPCO products are shipped from the Birmingham plant site by truck, rail, waterway, air, parcel, and internodal transportation to destinations throughout the United States and the world.
The Traffic Department evaluates different forms of packaging to ensure that the product reaches the customer undamaged. The Traffic Department is responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with the various carriers to ensure smooth and prompt delivery of products to our customers.
The shipment of ACIPCO products to international destinations requires attention to extensive detail. Often, an ACIPCO representative will travel to the destination port to supervise not only the unloading of pipe at the port destination but also the delivery of the pipe by rail or truck to an inland destination. Arrangements may also be made to unload the product from truck or railcar and transport it to the job site.
The Traffic Department works closely with International Sales in preparing price estimates for international bids. It also negotiates for international letters of credit, an important step in financial arrangements for international trade. |
