| Note: ACIPCO Fifty Years Ago takes a quick look at the company's proud past as a leading manufacturer in the water/wastewater industry.
American Cast Iron Pipe Company finds its product in use over a wide area as 1949 meets 1950. In International Falls, Minnesota, the Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company has recently completed a new water filtration plant in which AMERICAN piping was "used exclusively." Pulp used to make paper, Pipe Progress points out, is 99.5 percent water at the beginning of the manufacturing process. A Pipe Progress from that time also tells us that Guntersville, Alabama, is named after humorist Will Rogers' great grandfather, John Gunter, who founded the city. AMERICAN pipe is being used for a water line extension in Guntersville, which boasts 25,000 acres of sailing water within sight of the city. Also in Alabama, AMERICAN pipe is being used in a river crossing operation in Decatur. Other locations in which AMERICAN pipe is being used are numerous. They include: Hays, Kansas, where 11 miles of 12-inch pipe is laid as part of a water works improvement program; Greenwood, South Carolina, where a supply line and filter plant improvements are under way; Miami, Florida, where a fire protection system is installed for the Pan American World Airways service hangars; Frayser, Tennessee, where 30 miles of AMERICAN pipe is installed for a new water system; Kirksville, Missouri, which is in the middle of a large public works improvement program; Phoenix, Arizona, which is building a new filter plant; and Weleetka, Oklahoma, where a multi-million dollar expansion program has been completed. |
